The impressive GM6, which is a baby version of the popular GM2 gear motor. Designed by Mark Tilden, the GM6 has tighter tolerances and better performance than a regular toy-style motor. These smaller, quicker 120:1 gear reduction ratio'd motors are sure to stir ideas!

This gear motor starts rotation at 0.58 volts, turning 7RPM drawing only 46.5mA. At 6 volts, this unit really hums, spinning at 157RPM and drawing 97mA no-load (563mA stall producing 21.1in*oz torque). We've successfully used these units very well on solarengine circuits.

Like it's big-brother, this gear motor also has a built-in safety clutch which engages at approximately 25in*oz (at 6.5V / 650mA). This motor also has a unique 2mm (0.08") crest diameter chrome-finish splined shaft (length 9.7mm) that can be pushed through the output gear to either side of the motor, and is also solderable! (If you do want to solder to it, yank the shaft right out, solder, then press it back in).

These motors have an overall size of 36.5mm x 40.7mm x 24.7mm (1.43" x 1.60" x 0.97"), and weigh in at only 18.3 grams (0.65oz). A tidy package, with pretty good power! We've had good success with these motors and the RW2 wheel on "StrongBad" and "2Strong2Bad" competitive mini-sumo robots.
